  6. COMMODORE UNVEILS NEW AMIGAVISION (TM) AUTHORING SYSTEM;
  7. INNOVATIVE TOOL PROVIDES KEY TO MULTIMEDIA APPLICATIONS

  9. NEW YORK, NY -- April 24, 1990 -- Commodore Business Machines
  10. President Harold Copperman today strengthened the company's
  11. leadership position in the multimedia market by introducing
  12. powerful multimedia authoring software.  The system can be used
  13. to create innovative applications ranging from complex business
  14. presentations to daily courseware.

  16. Commodore Vice President of Marketing C. Lloyd Mahaffey said the
  17. new software system, called AmigaVision (tm), significantly
  18. expands the multimedia market by providing an easy to use and
  19. affordable method for business, education, government and
  20. consumer users to develop new applications by creatively
  21. combining graphics, text, video and audio components.  Shipping
  22. is expected to begin in May.

  24. The announcement was made as part of a live multimedia
  25. presentation at the Palladium.  The company also introduced the
  26. latest in its Amiga (R) family of personal computers, the Amiga
  27. 3000, and a full line of networking products.

  29. Previously the domain of programmer-level professional users,
  30. multimedia can now be a tool for creative teacher, presentation
  31. professionals, computer-based trainers, instruction specialists
  32. as well as exhibit and display professionals.  AmigaVision does
  33. not require previous programming experience and is operable
  34. through an intuitive user interface.

  36. Mahaffey said the Amiga is the only computer that was originally
  37. designed as a multimedia class machine.

  39. "AmigaVision is a significant development in the multimedia,"
  40. said Tim Bajarin, vice president of Creative Strategies
  41. International, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based research firm, and
  42. publisher of MULTIMEDIA COMPUTING AND PRESENTATIONS.  "With
  43. today's round of announcements, Commodore is positioned to make
  44. a major play for PC sales within this growing market."

  46. David Archambault, director of business markets, said
  47. AmigaVision takes full advantage of the Amiga's built-in
  48. graphics, video and music capabilities.  The system uses the
  49. Amiga's native multitasking capability to allow users to run
  50. programs simultaneously.  Unlike other authoring systems,
  51. AmigaVision is a non-intrusive environment which allows
  52. applications to run without the AmigaVision menus being visible.
  53. Enhanced design capabilities allow for immediate on-screen
  54. preview while the presentation program is running.  This allows
  55. the user to create unique user interface elements quickly and
  56. with ease.

  58. AmigaVision provides a flow-chart type iconic interface
  59. programming environment featuring a single control screen/menu.
  60. The operation system's ARexx (tm) communications protocol
  61. support allows applications to interact with programs on the
  62. same or other networked machines.

  64. The system will be bundled with all Amiga 2000 and 3000 series
  65. machines.  For existing owners, AmigaVision is available at
  66. Authorized Commodore Amiga Resellers for a suggested retail
  67. price of $149.

  69. Mahaffey said AmigaVision is a key component of Commodore's
  70. product marketing strategy for the Amiga family.  While
  71. professional users comprise the majority of multimedia-related
  72. markets today, future plans call for penetration into the
  73. consumer market as home users begin to discover the benefits of
  74. multimedia.
